Create and customize a note template

Create a template, start from an existing one, and save changes to match your documentation style.

A template tells Medical Scribe what to generate from a visit transcript. You can write the instructions yourself or ask AI to help draft them.

Open Templates and choose Add Template.

Open Templates and choose Add Template.

Create a template

  1. Open Templates in the web app and select Add Template.

  2. To use a starting point, select Create from template before you enter a name or body. Search the available templates and choose one.

  3. Enter a name in Untitled template, and edit the template body. Describe the sections, format, and level of detail you want.

  4. For AI help, use Describe your template on a blank template or Ask for changes once it has content. Review the revised template.

  5. Select Create to save the new template. You return to the template list after creation.

A template needs both a name and a body before it can be saved. For example, you can ask for an assessment and plan organized by problem, with short paragraphs and no unsupported details.

Edit an existing template

Open the template from the list, make your changes, and select Save changes. When editing a system template, the button is Save a copy, which saves your customized version.

Use Undo and Redo in the template editor to revise recent edits. AI changes update the editor’s draft; use the save button to keep the template.

Preview and patient history

Select Preview to test the current template on an available recent visit. You can also turn on Include patient history. On narrow screens, both controls are inside Template options (the three-dot button).

AI assistance and visit-based preview are unavailable when your free visit allowance is exhausted. You can still work on the template text manually.

Leaving with unsaved changes

If Discard unsaved changes? appears, choose Keep editing to return and save, or Discard changes to leave without those edits.
